Customer comments on this selection.
for academics This book is not really intended for practical purposes on 'how to manage a global business', it was used at my university for MBA students to provide them with case-studies that exemplify management theory.
For this purpose I give this book 5/5.
The case studies are interesting if you are an academic in the process of learning about management.
As an undergraduate I found that it made my lessons much more interesting, rather than just reading theory all the time.
The case studies are very interesting to read about if you are interested in International Business, and they cover both Western and Asian companies.
The outline of the book is this:
Each chapter starts with some theory, which is not extensive. The theory itself is very well explained.
Then you get a number of case studies that reflect the theory just covered.
It is true that 90% of the book are just case-studies, so that is what you are paying for.
I agree with previous reviewers that the book is heavily over-priced.
Fast delivery Correct item was received; I'm using this for a class and it's helpful for international business strategy. I will probably keep it afterward for reference.
Pretty good I'm a student halfway through what is probably a mediocre MBA program. This is one of the better texts we've used so far. I have found it to be pleasant and informative reading. I don't understand the disgust communicated in the other reviews.
Transnational Mgtmt The book was helpful in getting through my class because it was a requirement. The book had more cases and readings than actual theory. Which is good because you almost always get theory and less examples. The print is kind of small.
Please. Spare me this book. The previous reviewer has it on the mark. I patiently formed my own opinion, and reached just about the same conclusion. I am forced to use this text as one of two final courses in an MBA program to coincide with final projects.
If one hasn't achieved the mindset this book tries to instill, by the time you get this far in a program to use the text, you've already missed the train. Through very long case studies and short chapters, you review everything you ever learned about business. It is so slow and common sensical, you wonder who the book is trying to reach. It has little commentary and presents the idea of transnational organizations as a textbook concept. Boring, frustrating, basic.
I dread this book. The very sight of it makes me cringe and brings on acid reflux. Make sure you get your magnifying glass out, you'll need it. The text is in about a 8 or 9 font. This book may present more of a test of nerves, patience and sanity than it does a convincing or compelling read and study on transnational management.
