Good book to get you pass IT foundation but ... It is a good book to get you to the pass ITIL foundation exam but it is extremely limited, hard to read and does not contain a lot of the useful ITIL materials.
If you are not going to take the test, find another better book.
Don't waist your money This is one of the worst written books I have ever read. The book is a tough read. Information is just thrown at you like verbal(allthough written) diarrea.
Good to find an ITIL V3 publication I can share Most books of this type are pretty dry and hard to read. It's nice to see one written that I can share with my fellow IT and business execs and have some hope that they will actually get something out of it. I did find 1 or 2 editing errors in the book but otherwise found it very well written in common language. I plan to have my whole staff read sections of it in preparation for their foundations training & certification (which will be news to them).
Five books or one ? ITIL v3 is defined in 5 new volumes, whereas the summary from Van Haren is squeezed into a single 320 page text.
Of course, you are not going to get the level of detail that you'd have if you purchase all 5 books, but if you want someone to have picked out the "best bits" then consider getting this book.
Perhaps the best attribute for the book is that it strips away a lot of the superfluous text that surround some of the new concepts. That in itself is a worthwhile reason to consider getting it. I would have liked to have seen more original diagrams, most of the pictures are taken directly from the original ITIL v3 volumes.
There is a full 30 page glossary at the back of the book that is based on the official ITIL v3 Glossary.
They've done it again! Jan van Bon/Ivo van Haren and their team have again delivered a great foundations book - a standard that deserves its place in every ITIL practitioner's library.
Hats off!
